The many friends in this village of Mrs. R. H, Ash learned with deep sorrow
of her death, which occurred at her home in Canastota, Thursday, afternoon, April 4,
after an Illness of several weeks. Ella Mowers Ash was born at Stratford NY,
February 12, 1862, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Mowers.
When she was but a child the family came to live in Port Leyden, where her
early life was spent and where she married Dr. Robert H. Ash.
About twenty years ago Dr. and Mrs. Ash went to Canastota to reside.
Mrs. Ash was a woman of a bright, cheerful disposition, and possessed many
excellent traits of character for which she was beloved and admired by a large
circle of friends.
Surviving, besides her husband are one son. Robert H. Ash, Jr.; her
mother Mrs. Henry Mowers, of Boonville, and three brothers, Charles H.
Mowers, of Boonville; Dr. Scudder T. Mowers, of Baltimore, and Frank
Mowers, who resides In New Hampshire. One son, Friend H., died several years ago.
The funeral services were held in private at the home, Monday morning,
Rev. C. E. Fry, pastor of the First Methodist church of Canastota. officiating,
and interment was made in the" family plot in the Port Leyden cemetery.
Rev. Reuben Kline conducting the committal service.
Those who accompanied the remains were Dr. Ash, Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Ash, Canastota; Mrs. Henry Mowers, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mowers, Mr. and
Mrs. Herbert Ingersoll, Boonville; Mrs. Clara Wasson and three children.
