YAKIMA - Earl Thomas Morton passed away on June 30th 2007
He was born November 10th, 1923 in Yakima to J.S. Morton and Edna Dubuc Morton. He attended Yakima High School and YVC where he was enrolled in Civilian Pilot Training Program. He entered naval training in 1942 receiving his commission and wings at Corpus Christi, Texas in 1944, and on the same date married Lorie Jeanne LaFontaine. He served active combat missions as a fighter pilot on the aircraft carrier USS Wasp. He retired as a Lieutenant Commander. He then worked as an air traffic controller and evaluator. In 1966 he returned to Yakima and the family farm [nursery/orchards].
Earl maintained his love of flying and actively participated in many other aspects of aviation. He also spent a great deal of time on his computer writing novels.
He is survived by his wife Lorie Jeanne; three daughters, Kathleen [Dan] Harrison of Pinehurst, ID, Kimberly [Steve] Bales of Kennewick, WA, and Suzanne [Jim] Vargo of Mishawaka, IN; one son Michael [Bobbie] Morton of Oak Harbor, WA; thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Kelt Patrick Morton and three brothers Stan, Carrel, and Howard.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Memorial Hospital, Hospice, Dr. Ryan Crafts, Robin and staff.
Evening Vigil Services will be offered Monday, July 2, at 6 p.m. at Langevin- Mussetter Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Holy Family Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3, 2007. Concluding service will follow at the Holy Rosary Cemetery. The reception will follow at Holy Family Church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospice or Veterans of Foreign Wars. Arrangements are in the care of Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home.
