| Birth: | Nov. 14, 1799 | | Death: | Jun. 24, 1886 |  Nathan Brewster Morse, Sr. (1779-1886) was the son of Peter Morse (1768-1839) and his wife Lusena (Brewster) Morse (1770-1855). He was born in Canterbury, Conn. His mother was a descendant of Elder William Brewster, who came on the Mayflower. Nathan Brewster Morse, Sr. became a lawyer, and then a prominent Judge. He was the President of the Union Ferry Company, also known as the Brooklyn Union Ferry Company, for 47 years. He was elected City Treasurer of Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1820, and in 1830 became the District Attorney of Kings County, Brooklyn. In 1847 he was elected Judge of the Supreme Court of the Second District, Brooklyn, N.Y. On 16 May 1827, in Killingly, Conn., Nathan Brewster Morse, Sr. married (first) Eliza Tiffany (1803-1858) -- the sister of Charles Tiffany, co-founder of Tiffany and Company. Together they had two children: Nathan Brewster Morse, Jr. (1839-1879) and Charlotte Tiffany (Morse) Dunham. After his wife Eliza's death, Nathan married (second), on 19 October 1859, Joanna Smith Handley (1817-1889). They had no children together. Nathan's relationship to the Tiffany family was noted in "The Tiffany Touch," pp. 29 and 30. Nathan Brewster Morse, Sr. died on 24 June 1886, in Brooklyn, New York.
