She was born in Wallingford, CT on March 12, 1913, a daughter of the late Chester A. and Maria Alpeghiani Morris. Lena was a parishioner of the Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford, where she was a member of the Perpetual Help Society and a past Secretary.
During her life, Lena worked in various jobs as a seamstress, kitchen staff at Gaylord Hospital and a Directory Assistance Operator for S.N.E.T.
Lena embodied the spirit of her family. Her laugh was infectious and she lit up any room that she walked into. She was the foundation of a family who looked to her for guidance, nurturing, understanding, and love. Lena was unselfish in her devotion to her family and friends and was always at the ready to lend a hand to those in need. Everyone flocked to her house for the best Italian food anyone could make. Her homemade pastas including Gnocchi, ravioli stuffed with spinach and cheese, frittatas, sauce and meatballs all made our mouths water. As a true Italian cook all her recipes were unwritten and kept close to her heart and mind. It was always a pinch of this and a pinch of that and a little bit of wine and a gourmet meal was served. Lena was an inspiration to anyone who touched her life. We admired her devotion to her husband and the care she provided him. She was an Angel on Earth who unconditionally gave to others. She will live in our hearts and memories forever.
Lena will be sadly missed by her niece and husband Mary Ann and B.J. O'Looney and her children, her nephew and wife, Robert and Cynthia Malchiodi and her son, her sister-in-law Gloria Morris and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces. She was predeceased by her 3 sisters, Madeline Dorsey, Rose Cerri, and Anna Malchiodi; and her 3 brothers, Andrew Morris, Edward Morris and Joseph Morris.
Lena's family will receive relatives and friends Sunday, June 20, 2010 in The Wallingford Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 21st from The Wallingford Funeral Home when the funeral cortege will proceed to the Most Holy Trinity Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery on Christian St. in Wallingford.
