Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 27, at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens in Davenport. Memorials may be made to the Special Care Unit at Davenport Lutheran Home.
Martha was born April 30, 1919, in Davenport, the daughter of Chester H. and Edna M. (Schwerdtfeger) Morris. She was united in marriage to Vernon A. Krell in 1936 in Milan, Ill. He preceded her in death on June 17, 1976. Marti had been a midwife in early years and sang at the dedication of the Iowa-Illinois Memorial Bridge.
After the birth of her children, Marti became a licensed practical nurse and had worked with the Iowa Masonic Home and the former Americana Nursing Home in Davenport. She and Vernon moved to Kansas City in 1971 and in later years, she had worked at Sam's Club there.
Marti liked to make people laugh and loved all of her family dearly.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Marion Krell of Phoenix, Karen Krell-Allee and Robert of Walcott, Iowa, and Jo Ann Hoopes and Robert of St. Peters, Mo.; her sons, Vernie Krell and his significant other, Linda Linton of Fort Myers, Fla.; E. Raymond Krell and his wife, Sandy Krell-Nielson of St. Charles, Mo., Dennis and Judy Krell of Bettendorf, David and Karen Krell of Holt, Mo., and Mark Krell of Salem, Ore.; 24 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Betty Duncan of Van Buren, Mo., and June Miller of Mountain Grove, Mo.; and her brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Jessie Morris of Bettendorf, Ralph and Donna Morris of LeClaire and Arthur and Vicki Morris of Bettendorf.
In addition to her husband, Vernon, Marti was preceded in death by her parents; three sons in infancy, Weldon, Duane and Vernon; her daughter and son-in-law, Lorrine and Raymond Sanders; her sisters, Irene Morris, Shirley Simpson and Gladys Wald; her brothers, Chester and Myron Morris.
