Mendon Dispatch-Times, July 23, 1931 -- Charles Morris, Sr, a pioneer of Mendon Township passed away at 5:45 o'clock on Sunday evening, July 19, 1931, after six weeks of illness.
He was first taken ill with a severe cold. Later the flu developed causing his death.
Charles, sone of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Morris was born in New York on Sept 21, 1857 and came to Mendon with his parents when only 3 years old. They purchased a farm south of Mendon which r. morris still owns. This being his homefor over 70 years. The last few years he has resided in Quincy, making his home with his son, Charlie.
Mr. Morris was a good neighbor, a kind friend and loved by all who knew him. He was married to miss Alice Gunn when 21 years old. To this union four children were born. Mrs. Morris and three children preceded him in death.
One son, Charlie, survives. He also leaves four grandchildren, Earl, Margaret Alice, Paul and Robert Morris.
The funeral services were held on Wednesday morning at 9 o'clock at the St. Francis church in Quincy and interment was in the Bloomfield cemetery.
