Albert Garland Morris died Thursday, March 17, 2011 at his home after a long illness.

A native of Craven county, North Carolina, Mr. Morris was a graduate of Farm Life High School. After high school, he served in the United States Army in World War II, earning numerous medals, including a bronze star.

After the service he worked as a mechanic at Whitford Motor Company in Vanceboro, North Carolina, for 10 years, and later with Bowditch Ford in New Port News, Virginia, for 15 years. Mr. Morris moved back to Vanceboro where he farmed and did carpentry work until he retired.
He was a member of Juniper Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and the VWF 11119 in Vanceboro.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill Henry and Sadie Morris; infant daughter, Trista Gail Morris; brothers, William and Phillip Morris; and a sister, Lee Belle Buck.

He was survived by his wife of 61 years, two sons and daughters-in-law, one daughter and son-in-law, 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and a sister.

The funeral service was conducted Saturday at 3:00 P.M. in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel in Vanceboro. Burial followed in the Juniper Chapel Free Will Baptist Church cemetery.

The family received friends Saturday from 1:30 P.M. until the funeral hour at the funeral home in Vanceboro.
