Funeral services were held at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola on Monday, July 23, with Pastor Keith Putney officiating. Interment was in the New Virginia Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to New Virginia Fire & Rescue or To The Morris Family for the benefit of Dallon Morris, great-grandson.
Versa Adel, daughter of Myron Forest Culbertson and Dolly May (Wilbur) Culbertson, was born Sept. 29, 1923, in Sanish, ND. Versa graduated from Milo High School in 1940. She was united in marriage to James Elmer Morris, Jr. on July 28, 1940, at Bethany, Mo. They farmed near Indianola and Liberty Center until Jim began hauling livestock. Jim and Versa moved to the New Virginia area in 1960 and into town in 1967. She drove a school bus for Interstate 35 and was a chaperone for their girls' athletics for many years. She was an honorary FFA member.
She is preceded in death by her husband; infant twin sons; sisters, Fern Turner, Inez Lester, Violet Piffer; brothers, Clyne Culbertson, Henry Culbertson; two infant sisters; and grandson, Joey Morris.
She is survived by her son, Joel Morris of Arkansas; son, Monty Morris of New Virginia; daughter, Carmen Strawn of Broomfield, Colo.; daughter, Chris Benedict of St. Charles; son, Merlin Morris of New Virginia; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sisters-in-law, Bea Gathright of California, Shirley Rosendahl of Des Moines; several nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives and many friends.
