Rosemary Ackerman, age 85 of Carmi departed life in the presence of family members on December 16, 2006 at Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi, where she made her home for the last three years.
Rosemary was born January 6, 1921 to Henry and Carolina Julia (Pfister) Morrill in Burnt Prairie Township. She married James F. Ackerman on April 22, 1938 and he preceded her in death on February 25, 1999.
Mrs. Ackerman was always a very busy person. She helped her husband farm and was active as a 4-H leader. She was active in home extension and learned early in life to sew, knit and crochet. She made lots of beautiful hand-made articles. She was an active member and Secretary/Treasurer of the Georgia General Baptist Church for many years. She worked in the White County Treasurer's office as Deputy Treasure for 32 years, working with both political parties. She was also active as a Democratic Chairwoman and in the Business and Professional Woman's Club.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Julia Ann and William Hal Faulkner of Carmi; one grandson and his wife Timothy Joseph and Kimberly Hall, of Carmi; three great-grandchildren, Derek W. of Evansville, IN, Jessica E. Hall and James J. Hall, both of Carmi; one brother John Henry Morrill of Carmi, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Helen (Teen) Whetstone of Carmi and Sylvia A. and Gene McLin of Seymour, TN. She was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Ford Ackerman on January 30, 1939.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at Stendeback Family Funeral Home/Kittinger-Fair in Carmi. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Kuykendall Cemetery in rural Carmi.
