Alice Mary Morrell Davis, of Roanoke, Va., born August 19, 1949, left this world peacefully on September 13, 2008. Alice leaves behind a legacy of courage, optimism, and a crazy sense of humor, all of which she kept until her final days. Alice was the patient wife of Gene, "a cantankerous little thing," until his death in 2005. She was a lover of both people and animals; an artist; violinist, music lover, giver of gifts; survivor of tragedy; the author of countless running jokes; a great cook; the world's worst driver, someone who made this world a happier place with her great gift of laughter, and fun loving spirit. Her father and mother, Francis and Helen Morrell; and brother, Wilfred Morrell; precede Alice in death. Her surviving siblings are Howard, David, Stuart and Michael Morrell, Carol Lyman, Kathleen Webb, and Teresa Morrell; and two special people who she adopted as sisters, Fran Holt and Annie Bannister. Alice also leaves behind countless dear friends, too numerous to mention as well as her beloved cats, Radar and Lucy. In keeping with her nature, Alice donated her body to the advancement of science. Her wish was to have a "Celebration of her Life," in the form of a party. The family is honored to host an open house on Saturday, October 4, 2008, from 2 to 8 p.m. A casual gathering of family and friends is planned for the day. For directions call Kathy at 540-206-4378. Alice's name will be mentioned during the Prayers of the Faithful on Sunday, September 21, 2008, at St. Andrews Catholic Church. Contributions may be made to the American. American Cancer Society.
