Mildred M. Linke, our beloved wife, mother and grandmother, crossed over peacefully to The Light on May 31, 1993, after an inspirational and valiant battle with cancer.
She was born in Waco, Texas, May 22, 1922, to Robert D. and Callye Weatherred Morrel. After graduating from the University of Oklahoma, she married her sweetheart, Harold A. Linke, on March 9, 1946, in Waxahachie, Texas. They lived in Salt Lake City for most of their married life. Mildred taught fourth grade at Jackson Elementary School in Salt Lake City for ten years before retiring in 1973.
Mildred brought a love of life and a zest for helping those around her to all she did. One of the joys of her life was building a second home in Star Valley Ranch with Harold and sharing their new refuge with a host of family and friends. She is Past Queen of Lybia Temple, Daughters of the Nile, and past president of Chapter H, P.E.O. Until last month she was on the Session of First Presbyterian Church where she completed chairing the Stewardship Committee. An avid golfer, she was on the golf team at the Salt Lake Country Club where she had been recognized many times for her achievements.
Mildred is survived by her husband, Harold, her daughter, Pamela Richards, her son, Harold R. Linke, her daughter-in-law, Deborah Linke and her grandchildren, Jeremy Richards, Christiana Richards, Elliott Linke and Brenna Linke.
In keeping with Mildred's love of helping others to succeed, the family requests contributions in lieu of flowers be made to Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital c/o June Trapp, to the P.E.O. Continuing Education Fund or to First Presbyterian Church. Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, South Temple and "C" Street at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 1993. Friends may call on the family at Evans and Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 South, Salt Lake City, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday June 2, 1993, or at the church one hour before the service.
In recognition of her zest for living, please dress in bright colors to celebrate her life.
