Ruby Louise Morlan, a 96-year-old Yreka resident, passed away on Tuesday morning, Oct. 9, 2012 at the Madrone Hospice House in Yreka.
Ruby was born on Feb. 5, 1916 in Fort Benton, Mont. to Vernon and Anna Hill and later moved to northern Idaho, St. Maries and Wallace, Idaho areas. Ruby married Ralph Johnson in St. Maries, Idaho in 1933 and they had one daughter, Bernadine Seal of Yreka. Ruby later married Don Morlan in 1963; he died of ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease, in 1985. Ruby moved to Yreka in 1985 to be near her daughter. Ruby lived in Payette, Idaho for many years and worked and retired from Ore Ida Potatoes in Ontario, Ore. She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose Lodge in Wallace, Idaho and St. Joseph's Guild and the Legion of Mary, both in Yreka. Ruby enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, gardening and collecting knick-knacks.
In addition to Bernadine, Ruby is survived by three grandchildren, Judy and Bob Cornelious of Price, Utah, Michael and Susan Seal of Edgewood and Karen and Dennis Shoemaker of Moiese, Mont.; eight great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren and two great-great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret Russell of Hines, Ore. in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Potter and Helen Napier and three brothers, Vernon, Kenneth and Clayton Hill.
