Charlotte Tessie Morice Hagen, 99, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, in a Shawnee, nursing home.

Mrs. Hagen, a longtime resident of Falls Church, Virginia, was born in Naples, Idaho, September 22, 1912 and moved to Spokane, Washington, at an early age where she completed her formal education.

In 1934 she accepted a position with the U. S. Post Office Department in Washington, D, C., serving as a secretary until her marriage in 1938 to William Hagen, Jr. Thereafter she and her husband, employed by the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service, moved with his assignments to Seattle and other locations in Washington and Oregon.

In 1950, the couple moved Northern Virginia when Mr. Hagen was assigned to the Washington, D. C. office, in the Department of the Interior. The family established residence in Falls Church, Virginia. Mrs. Hagen worked in Kann's Department Store and served as library secretary at George Mason High School until 1971, when both Mrs. Hagen and her husband retired.

Mrs. Hagen was a founding member and served for several years as Ruling Elder of the Knox Presbyterian Church. For some 25 years, Mrs. Hagen was very active in charitable service for which she received commendations from the Fairfax County Welfare Department and the Falls Church Community Service Council, with which she was closely associated.

Charlotte Hagen is survived by two sisters, Dorothy Bjur and Jeanne Webster, daughter Lynn K. Schwerer of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and sons William M. Hagen of Shawnee, Gregory A. Hagen of Ashburn, Virginia, Grant A. Hagen of Marietta, Georgia, and eight grandchildren.

The family wishes to express its heartfelt thanks to the staff at Rose Manor for the excellent care Mrs. Hagen was given during the past two years. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to United Presbyterian Church, Shawnee or the Salvation Army.
