Mary, 74, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family. She was born to Frank & Leta Morgan. She grew up behind St. Lawrence O'Toole Catholic Church and spent her childhood wandering the hills and valleys of her family's farm. Throughout her life, she fondly remembered her time on Irish Ridge and would often journey back to visit. On Sept. 12, 1953 she married Edwin R. Baerwolf and moved to a farm near North Bristol, which became her home for the remainder of her life. Mary was the beloved mother of six children. The great tragedy of her life was the death of her son David in 1972 at the age of 10. Her remaining children all lived within a couple of miles of the home farm and continued to see her almost daily up until her death. Mary was an extremely bright, hard-working, and caring person. She earned a bachelor's degree later in her life from Edgewood College with majors in business administration and religious studies. She was a consummate professional in her career as a secretary for various agencies and as a business administrator, retiring from Columbia County Human Services after 10 years. She loved writing and maintained that ability even after she was no longer able to speak. She was able to communicate her love for her family through her writing even in her last days. At one time, she wrote a column for the Sun Prairie Newspaper, called "Letters from a Country Women," sharing her love of living on the farm. Mary had a close relationship with God. She joined St. Joseph's Catholic Parish, East Bristol, after her marriage to Edwin and served the parish members and most especially the parish youth, throughout her adult life, retiring as the religious education director in 2006 after 22 years. She is survived by her husband, Edwin R. Baerwolf; three sons, Edwin (Velery) Baerwolf, James (Jenny) Baerwolf, and Robert (Jenny) Baerwolf; two daughters, Linda (Ric) Choudoir and Connie (Ted) Valenza; 18 loving grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters, Francis, Anna Marie, Leo, Ralph, and Charlotte; and her son, David. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in East Bristol with Father Gary Wankerl presiding. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family would like to thank Hillside Hospice Care for their invaluable assistance in helping us fulfill Mom's last wish, which was to stay in her home until she died. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Joseph's Religious Education Program.
