MATHEWS - Mrs. Elizabeth James Atherton, aged 81 years, died at her home at Hallieford on Thursday, January 11, after a short illness.

Mrs. Atherton is survived by her husband, Henry B. Atherton, of Hallieford; two sons, Captain Calvin Atherton, of Hallieford, and Chief Warrant Officer N. Stanley Atherton, somewhere in the Southwest Pacific; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, and one brother R. Vandy Morgan, of Blakes.

Funeral services were held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mathews Chapel Methodist Church, of which Mrs. Atherton was the oldest member, conducted by Rev. O. L. Gochenour, pastor of the church, assisted by Rev. D. W. Jackson, former pastor. Interment was made in Mathews Chapel Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were: Henry Morgan, Ernest Lewis, Cecil Green, Tommie Morris, W. E. Aldrich and Glen Blaylock.

Honorary pallbearers were: Carroll Blaylock, Talmadge Morgan, Paul Morgan, Edward Morgan, Enos Morgan, C. R. lewis, L. B. Cannon, Julius Green, C. H. Bassett, Elmer Green and Charlie Hudgins.
