Eileen "Din Din" Morgan Carty passed away on Tuesday (December 30, 2008) at New Britain General Hospital after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of Edwin W. Carty.
Eileen was born on February 27, 1928 in Remedios, Cuba and was the daughter of the late Leon Morgan and Lillian Brown Morgan and sister of the late Leonardo "TaTa" and George "Squire" Morgan. She lived in Jamaica until 1955 when she immigrated to Connecticut. Eileen was a clothes designer and bridal designer for Wynshaws Bridal and co-owned her own business, Bel-Amour Fabric where she was named Woman Entrepreneur.
Later, she worked for 35 years as a Psychiatric Technician at the Institute of Living, retired and moved to Miramar, Florida. Eileen's award winning art work has been in several shows and she enjoyed competing in Latin Dance competitions, playing volleyball, scrabble, the guitar and being a member of the Caribbean American Society of Hartford and a founding member of the Caribbean Ladies Cultural Club. Eileen received her degree in Fine Arts from Tunxis Community College.
She is survived by her husband Edwin of 52 years, three children; Linnet E. Carty, Howard A. Carty, Dr. Monique L. (Carty) Dawson, son-in-law Phillip, three grand children; Trey, Blake and Candace Dawson, one sister; Sonia Santavenere, nephews; Jeffrey Mattos and Dr. Stanley Mossop, Steven Mossop, Dr. Michael Carty, a host of other relatives and her best friend Pauline Robertson.
Funeral Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 136 Capitol Avenue, Hartford on Saturday, January 10th at 10:30 am. Friends may greet the family from 10-10:30.
Entombment will be held at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery.
