Henry Morel joined the Army on 06 Dec 1941 at Jacksonville Army Air Field, Florida. He came in as a Private, but later advanced to Second LT. He had one year of High School at the time, and his listed occupation was as a bandsman, Oboe or parts clerk, and automobile. He was single at the time, weighed 146 lbs and was 69 inches tall.
On Sept 1, 1943, Henry was involved in an airplane crash. No one was hurt but his gear stuck and he landed, turning around, at Pineling Army Air Field, FL. Kimberly King has a copy of the accident report.
Uncle Henry flew in 5 fighter planes named Ruby 1, Ruby 2, etc. He went through 5. All 5 were shot to pieces.
Uncle Henry and Orville built Grandpa Larose's office.
Uncle Henry made the headstone memorial to Uncle John.
Orville Baier knew no details of any mission that John or Henry flew. He said they never talked about it.
I sadly do not know much about Henry Morel. I do know he was an outstanding and successful pilot in WWII. He came back unharmed, and many others in his unit never returned.
One day he was watching some men welding when a spark flew off their torch, blinding Henry in one eye.
He remains a hero. I hope in time I can reconstruct his heroic efforts.
