PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- Walter L. "Wally" Moran, 87, of Platteville, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at the Platteville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Wendy Christianson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Platteville. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 42 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5274 at the church. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Melby-Bendorf Funeral Home, Platteville. Friends also may call after 10 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at the church.

He was born on Nov. 6, 1920, in Lodi. He married Eleanor Dennis on June 26, 1948, in Racine.

Walter graduated from Lodi High School and attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, for a couple of years where he played baseball.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

Walter worked for the Gillette Rubber Company, and J.I. Case, in Racine. He then worked for John Deere Dubuque Works as a decision writer for 25 years, retiring in 1981.

Walter was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Racine, the American Legion and United Methodist Church, Platteville.

He enjoyed fishing and following his three grandchildren in their sports activities.

Surviving are his wife, Eleanor, of Platteville; two sons, Kevin Moran, of Atlanta, Ga., and Mike (Connie) Moran, of Platteville; three grandchildren, Corey, Ryan and Jaimee Moran.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine; a daughter, Terry Lynn; a sister, Rozella Moran; and brothers, George and Horace (Gladys) Moran.
