Son of Jose Maria Moraida, horse keeper for the Texian Army. Given land grants by the Republic of Texas for services rendered during the Texas War for Independence. His sons Jose de los Santos Moraida and Jose Bicente Moraida were both murdered, possibly in an Indian raid outside the town center. Both were interred in 1846 in what was then known as the Villa Camposanto, the original burial area for the Villa de San Fernando, now San Fernando Cathedral. Now known as Milam Park, the space has been subjected to numerous excavations and changes. Those originally interred at this site are commemorated on bronze plaques mounted at the site, across from Christus Santa Rosa Hospital. During one of the hospitals' expansions, the majority of graves were moved and reinterred in a mass grave at San Fernando Cemetery #1.
