SAN ANGELO Dorris Dile Moorehead, 82, of Lubbock, formerly of San Angelo, passed away Monday, June 4, 2007. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 8, in Fairmount Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at Johnson's Funeral Home. Dorris was born on June 26, 1924, in Boswell, Okla., to Ola Arvada White Moorehead and James Madison Moorehead. He attended San Ange-lo Senior High School in San Angelo, Texas, and graduated in 1943. He joined the United States Army June 9, 1943. Dorris served in the South Philippines campaign and was with the Occupation Forces in Japan. He earned a Bronze Star, the Purple Heart on June 21, 1945, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star, the American Theater Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal with one Bronze Star, Philippine Independence Ribbon, and the Asian Occupation Medal. Dorris was preceded in death by his wife, MARY JANE (KERR) MOOREHEAD;his parents; sister; and son James Dile. He is survived by children Doris Dawn Street and husband Joe of Edmond, Okla., Robert Madison "Matt" Moorehead of San Angelo, Leslie Dile Moorehead and wife Toni of Grapevine, Texas, Janey Ann Thompson and husband David of Lubbock, Texas, Joseph Wilson and wife Nelsie of Pahrump, Nev., and Jeffery Lynn Moorehead of Pahrump, Nev. He is also survived by his brother, Luther Westley Moorehead and his wife, Bernadine of Helotes, Texas. Dorris was also blessed with 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a multitude of friends in the San Angelo area. He was an active member, a deacon, and sang in the church choir of Immanuel Baptist Church while raising his family. He also served as a deacon and sang in the church choir of First Baptist Church in the 1980-1990s.
