Died of Wounds received in France
Staff Sgt Walter B. Moore, of the 654th Tank Destroyer Battalion died in an England hospital Oct 21st. He was wounded on Oct 11th while serving in actual combat somehere in France with General Patton's Third Army.
Before entering the regular U. S. Army, Sgt. Moore was a member of the Andalusia National Guard. He entered the Army at Fort Benning, GA, Oct. 1939 and received his training there and at various places in North and South Carolina. In December 1941, he was transferred to Camp Gordon, Augusta, GA, where he remained stationed until he was sent overseas October 1943. Before entering combat in France he was stationed in Northern Ireland and England.
Sgt Moore had been previously been wounded in July for which he received the Purple Heart and had been awarded the Good Conduct Medal before leaving the States.
He was married to Annie Lee Powell, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Powell, on June 2 1942. He was the son of Mr. Robert E. Moore and the late Mrs. Moore of Route 5 of Andalusia and a member of the Adellum Baptist Church. He attended the elementary and high schools of Andalusia and Pleasant Home High School.
Sgt. Moore is survived by his wife and one son, Walter Carol, his father, five sisters and four brothers, three of whom are serving with the armed services overseas. These are Sgt. Andy C. in the South Pacific and Pvt. Robert C. and George Moore somewhere in Belgium.
