Mona Lou (Moore) Gay, age 72, of Oakton, Virginia passed away on Friday, June 24, 2011 at INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital. She was born in Dubois, Pennsylvania in 1938 to Gerald E. Moore and Helen Means Moore. Mrs.
Mrs. Gay received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska and a Nursing Diploma from Hamot Hospital School of Nursing in Erie Pennsylvania. Her most recent position was as a registered nurse and Case Manager for CR Associates at the Family Health Clinic in Fairfax.
She joined the U.S. Air Force in 1963 where she served as a registered nurse and achieved the rank of First Lieutenant. She met her loving husband, Gene, while she was in the Air Force at Lowry Air Force Base. They were married in October 1965 and have been married for 45 years. She moved frequently as a military wife to assignments in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Clovis, New Mexico, Montgomery, Alabama, Fairfax, Virginia, Rome, Italy, and Brussels, Belgium.
She enjoyed traveling and teaching her family about the importance of culture, history and, the arts.
Mrs. Gay is survived by her husband Gene; two sons and their respective spouses, Steven J. Gay and Kara Biesman Gay and Brian P. Gay and Julie Meyers Gay. She is also survived by her sister Barbara Moore Leschorn; brother-in-law David Leschorn and two grandchildren, Sutton and Logan.
A Requiem Mass was celebrated at the St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Reston, VA on Wednesday, June 29, 2011.
