Charles E. "Charley" Moore 83, of Atchison, KS. died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012 at his home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 Am on Saturday, Jan.28th, 2012 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Ted Lovelace officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt Vernon Cemetery, Atchison. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 pm on Friday, Jan. 27th, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Charley was born on July 2, 1928 in Benton, KS. the son of Charley E. and Martha I. (Osman) Moore. He attended Meriden grade school and graduated from the Rock Creek High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and upon his returned went to work for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad in 1949. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in 1986 as a lead car man. He owned and operated Charley O's used car lot from 1986 to 1998 and then helped clerk at the Ernzen Liquor Store. Mr. Moore was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post # 1175, Atchison and member of the American Legion Post # 6, Atchison. He enjoyed cars and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was married to Mabel "Boots" McConnaughey on July 21, 1948 in Troy, KS. Mrs. Moore survives of the home. Additional survivors include; a son, Todd (Mayla) Moore, Iraan, TX, a daughter; Beverly (James) McNeely, Atchison, KS., a sister; Darlene McCall, Topeka, KS., twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. His parents, a daughter; Barbara "Bobbi" Moore Lopez, two brothers, and a sister preceded him in death.
