Chloe Moore Davis, 84, a Fort Worth native, passed away Wednesday, May 16, 2007.
Graveside service: 1 p.m. Friday in Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Chloe was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Tom W. Moore of Fort Worth. She attended Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Va., after graduating magna cum laude from Paschal High School. She graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin. She later earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in English literature from Texas Christian University, where she was the first woman to receive a doctorate. She was an associate professor of English at Texas Wesleyan College (now a university) and served for 10 years as a docent at the Kimbell Art Museum. She was listed in 1968 in "Who's Who in Texas Today" and in "Who's Who Among Women in the Southwest."
She was a member of St. Hilda's Guild of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, the 93 Club section of the Woman's Club of Fort Worth, Monticello Garden Club, Wives of Professional Engineers Club and Kappa Alpha Theta. She was also a member of Mary Isham Keith Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Fort Worth Garden Club, Fort Worth Lecture Foundation and Rivercrest Country Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas W. and Chloe Ruth Moore; daughter, Chloe Ruth Davis, in 1989; and brothers, Willis Moore and Bryan Moore.
Survivors: Husband, John D.L. Davis; son, Thomas Leigh Davis and wife, Anne; granddaughters, Katherine Leigh Davis and Michelle Duncan; sisters-in-law, Jean and Gloria Moore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
