FORT WORTH - Hilda McKinley Moor, a fourth-generation Fort Worthian, passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2001, in Fort Worth following a brief illness.

Memorial service: A memorial gathering will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, March 16, in the Van Cliburn Suite at the Renaissance Worthington Hotel to honor Hilda Moor's zest for living. Her friends and acquaintances are cordially invited by her family to attend and join in this celebration of her life.

Born into a show business family in 1916, she lived her early years as a child performer on the vaudeville circuit often in a song and dance act that included her aunt, Ella Mae Newell. Later, she was a dancer with the original Casa Manana produced by Billy Rose. Her brother, Ray McKinley, went from his youth in Fort Worth to become, among other achievements, the leader of the Glenn Miller Orchestra for many years.

After attending Stripling High School and Texas Christian University, Hilda McKinley in 1941 met and married Fran A. Moor, who preceded her in death in 1985. She devoted the remainder of her life to her family and to the city that her great-grandfather, Col. Abram Harris, helped settle. Her community interests were many, including gardening and the Women's Auxiliary of Cook Children's Medical Center, where she served as president for two consecutive terms. But her lifelong passion was music, whether as a singer with the Sandy Sandifer Orchestra, a soloist in the First Congregational Church choir or just dancing to the music of the legends of the Big Band era, many of whom she met and grew to know through her brother.

Survivors: Son, Robert A. Moor Sr. of Lake Forest, Ill.; three grandchildren, Alexis M. Eidson of San Antonio, Lindsay K. Moor of Chicago and Robert A. Moor Jr. of Lake Forest, Ill.; and niece, Jawn McKinley Neville of Excelsior, Minn.
