BARRIE - Melba Moody Barrie, 78, of Green Cove Springs died Friday, August 23, 2002 at her residence following an extended illness. She was a native and life long resident of Green Cove Springs. She was a 1941 graduate of the Clay High School in Green Cove Springs where she was Class Valedictorian. During World War II she started work as a stenographer at the age of 16 for the U.S. Army at Camp Blanding and later for the U.S. Navy at the Green Cove Springs Navy Base. She was engaged in the title and abstract business for many years having owned and operated the Barrie Abstract and Title Services in Clay County. She was a retired legal secretary and U.S. Federal Court Reporter. She later graduated from the Zoe Bible College in Jacksonville. Before declining health she enjoyed sewing and music. She was a charter member of the Living Waters Worship Center in Green Cove Springs. She was a loving mother and a devout Christian. She was preceded in death by her parents, A. J. and Nora Moody; one brother, Jack Moody; and one sister, Helen Moody Hodge. She is survived by two sons and daughtersinlaw, Rev. Leon J. (Joe) Barrie, III and his wife Mary Anne, and Alan R. Barrie and his wife, Debra; two daughters and soninlaw, Sharri Barrie Hunter and her husband, Harry, and Sharon A. Barnard, all of Green Cove Springs; nine grandchildren, David L. Barrie, Kenneth L. Hunter, Rebekah Barrie Westall, Kathryn Hunter Bridges, Deborah Barrie Stravato, Jennifer Barnard Berry, Jonathan P. Barnard, Wendy Lynn Sweat and Nancy Lee Ward; twelve great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and her loving caretaker, Dorothy Spengler of Bostwick. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at the Living Waters Worship Center, 1104 Idlewild Ave. (S.R. 16 West) in Green Cove Springs with Rev. David Lee Talbott, Rev. Leila Bruton and Rev. Ted Rodda, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Green Cove Springs. The viewing will be at the church from 6p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Flowers are gratefully accepted. Masters Funeral Home of Palatka is in charge of arrangements
