Deceased Name: Frances Montrose West UT United States

Frances Montrose West 1922 ~ 2006

Frances Montrose West, age 83, died on June 12, 2006 at her home in Provo, Utah.

Born on July 12, 1922 in Logan, Utah to John Leslie and Agnes Roberts Montrose, Frances attended Wilson Elementary, Logan Jr. High, and Logan High School. She graduated with a degree in child development and elementary education from Utah State University where she was a member of Chi Omega.

There she formed many life-long friendships. After graduation, she taught school at Sherman Elementary School in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She married her high school sweetheart, Franklin L. West, Jr. in the Logan LDS Temple on D-Day, June 6, 1944. They lived briefly in Salt Lake City, then spent 2 years in Denver, Colorado, where Franklin studied medicine. They lived 15 years in Boise, Idaho before moving to Provo, Utah, where they spent the rest of their lives. Franklin preceded her in death on August 27, 1986.

Frances always considered it her vocation to provide a good home for her husband and 10 children. She enjoyed the challenges of motherhood and often spoke of the fulfillment she found in her family centered life. Frances loved reading good books, reading to her children and grand-children, gardening, drawing, painting, and attending all the performing arts. She enjoyed taking various classes at BYU, family vacations to national parks in Utah and Idaho, and spending time with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A lifelong member of the LDS Church, Frances held many callings. She particularly enjoyed her many teaching positions which allowed her to utilize her natural talent for helping and instructing others. She also served an 18 month Family History mission for the LDS Church in Salt Lake City when she was 73.

Her children will always be grateful for her tremendous example of selfless service to them and others. Her humility and cheerful, positive attitude have left a lasting impact on everyone she influenced during her lifetime.

She is survived by a sister Dorothy (John) Montrose Bowen; brothers John (Celeste) Montrose, Paul (Elaine) Montrose, and George (Judy) Montrose; her children Franklin L. (Kathleen) West III, John L.
