Adam passed away as a result of a weather-related auto accident. Adam was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Tony and Agnes Montoya; maternal grandmother, Jane Martinez; and aunt, Patricia Ulibarri.

Adam was survived by his loving parents, Anthony and Vickie Montoya of El Rancho; maternal grandfather Ascension J. Martinez of Chimayo; brother Nicholas Montoya and wife Valerie of El Rancho; sister Natalie Montoya and Eric Garcia of Ojo Caliente; his girlfriend Ann Lanzante and her son Frankie, who was like a son to Adam; and Ann's daughter Sidney. Also surviving Adam were his nieces and nephews whom Adam adored: Josh, Ryan (his godson), Angelyssa, and Jazmyn Montoya; Marcus Jacquez, Shyanne, Hunter, Destiny, and Shaniah Garcia; paternal aunts and uncles: Kristine and Mike Smith, Barbara and Chris Williams, Roberta Montoya Martinez all of El Rancho; Carla Montoya Jacquez, Robert and Brenda Montoya of Jaconita; Kathleen and Sean Burns of San Antonio, TX; Larry (godparent) and wife Christie Ulibarri of Jaconita; Benito Jacquez of El Rancho, and Al Martinez of Glorieta; his maternal aunt and uncles: Elizabeth and Jerry Byrd of White Rock, Alex and Beth Martinez (his godparents) of Santa Fe, and Byron and Felicia Martinez of Chimayo. He also leaves behind many cousins, great aunts and uncles and many other relatives who dearly loved him.

Adam loved life and lived it to the fullest. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend to many. His pride and joy were his nieces and nephews. Adam's charismatic nature lit up a room when he entered and always made people smile. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. After graduating from Pojoaque High in 1997, he attended the University of New Mexico, and was briefly employed by Sandia National Lab. He was presently employed with Los Alamos National Lab as a Design Engineer for P-Division. His technological excellence in his work on projects will be dearly missed by his colleagues at the Laboratory. He was an avid sportsman, loved to ski, ride his motorcycle, and applied his creative skills working in the Montoya's family "Ironworks" business.

Visitation and Rosary were recited at Nuestra Seņora de Guadalupe in Pojoaque on 1 & 2 February 2010. Mass of Christian Burial was on 3 February 2010 at Nuestra Seņora de Guadalupe with the family's cousin Fr. Tim Martinez officiating. Burial followed at the El Rancho Catholic Cemetery.
