QUEENSBURY - Dorcas Baker, 90, born Aug. 15, 1924, formerly of Queensbury, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home, Fort Edward, NY.

She was the daughter of the late Byron and Lucretia (Dutcher) Monroe.

She married E. Arthur Baker on Sept. 27, 1943 at the Baptist Church in Warrensburg. He passed away Aug. 24, 1989.

She was also predeceased by their infant son, Daniel Bruce, two brothers, Leon and Malcolm Monroe, and three sisters, Lela and Letha Dorrance and Ethel Cook.

She worked for Warren County for 32 years as Administrative Assistant to the Commissioner of Social Services, retiring in 1983.

She enjoyed crafts, reading and word puzzles. She was an avid bowler for many years. She enjoyed country music and especially loved square dancing.

She was a member of the Adirondack Fiddlers and served as an officer of that organization both as Secretary and then as Treasurer and show coordinator until April of 2012.

She also was a member of the Hospital Guild for several years and remained as an Associate member when she could no longer serve as an active member.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Queensbury since 1977 and served as a volunteer in the office for several years. She also did volunteer work at Westmount Infirmary until 2007.

She was a former member of Hackensack Rebekah Lodge in Warrensburg and then Mohican Lodge in Glens Falls. While a member of the Hackensack Rebekah Lodge, she was instrumental in the formation of Echo Theta Rho Girls club which was a junior branch of the Rebekahs.

She was the lifetime advisor for the club and was NY State Theta Rho advisor for several years. She was also Past Noble Grand of Hackensack Rebekah Lodge and held many district and state offices for the Rebekahs.

Dorcas was also a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Warrensburg.

Arrangements by the Maynard Baker Funeral Home, 11 Lafayette St., Queensbury, NY 12804.

Interment will be Thursday, May 14, at 10 a.m. at Pine View Cemetery, Queensbury.
