His obituary from the December 30, 1943 Republican:
Wade Millman's Coffin Maker
Dies at Coatesville
Charles Monnett, age 74, who gained nationwide publicity as the coffin maker for Wade Millman, died Saturday. The story about how Millman had his own coffin made and preached his own funeral will become a legend and the name Monnett will be remembered with it.
Born near Coatesville, Monnett spent all his life in that community. He never married and "batched" all his life. He was an accomplished cabinet maker and carpenter. The only immediate survivors are three brothers, Wilbur of Pittsboro, Garrie of North Vernon and Virlie of Indianapolis.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Campbell Funeral Home in Coatesville with the Rev. James Burroughs officiating. Burial was in the Coatesville Cemetery.
Note: Year of birth taken from the Plainfield Public Library Cemeteries Index.
