Goldie Monger Becks, 88, of Elkton, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, in Winchester, where she had resided for the past 17 years.

She was born July 23, 1923, in Rockingham County and was the daughter of the late Elmer Monger and Leila Hammer Monger.

She was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Elkton. In her spare time, she loved sewing, knitting, reading, doing crossword puzzles and caring for her grandchildren.

On Aug. 31, 1981, she married Charles V. Becks, who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by sisters, Vallie Richard and Marion Monger; a brother, Leotha Monger; and a grandson, Charles V. Becks III.

Goldie is survived by a son, Charles V. Becks Jr. and wife, Gina, of Winchester; a daughter, Amanda Arnold and husband, Don, of Winchester; grandchildren, Amy Athey and husband, Mark, Brooke Arnold and Kayla Becks; great-grandchildren,
Haley Athey and Tali Burgess; and a sister, Caroline Brill, of Elkton.

A funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, Dec. 17, 2011, at Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton, with the Rev. Bob Smith Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Elk Run Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service.
