Benny Moncayo, 79, of Avondale, Arizona, passed away peacefully at home on April 12, 2010.

He was born and raised in New Mexico. In 1951 he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War.

He came to Arizona in October 1954, where he met and married his wife, Esther, of 55 years. Benny was a carpenter, a member of Arizona Carpenters Local Union 1506, and worked as a Superintendent for many local home builders for over 25 years.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 61, where he served as Commander in 1969. His passion for sports led him to coach Little League baseball in Avondale for 10 years.

He is survived by his wife, Esther; his children, Kathleen Moncayo, Rosemary and Kelly Deever, Barbara and Steve Garcia, and Roger and Evet Moncayo; his grandchildren, Christopher and Lisa Burchett, Hollie and Dominick Margarella, Elizabeth Moncayo-Williams, Stephanie Deever, and Daniel and Robyn Keel, Michael Cushing, Desiree, Jessa and Jarred Moncayo; his great-grandchildren, Emori and Ella Keel and Christopher Margarella.

A visitation will be at Thompson's Valley West Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Rd., Goodyear, Thursday April 15 from 5-8 p.m., with a funeral Mass the following morning, Friday April 16 at 9 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 539 E. La Posada Blvd, Goodyear. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Avondale.
