|Birth: ||Jul. 2, 1917|
|Death: ||May 18, 2009|
Florence "Flo" M. Adams, 91, of Lititz, entered into rest at United Zion Retirement Community, Warwick Township, on Monday, May 18, 2009.
Born in the Adamstown area, she was a daughter of the late Harry E. and Anna (Slabach) Mohler and was the widow of the late Willard (Bill) Adams who preceded her in death in 1989.
Flo graduated from Ephrata High School in 1934. A precocious student, she had skipped a grade and finished school one year earlier than usually done.
Although she had musical aspirations and played the banjo performing with a group at a local radio station, she didn't pursue a musical career, but instead entered the depression era work force.
She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Congregational Church, Rothsville, for over 40 years. At St. Paul's, she had served as a steward and a financial secretary. She loved to bake and was an excellent cook. A fastidious housekeeper, she loved word puzzles, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She also enjoyed doing latch hook, cross stitch and jigsaw puzzles.
An avid reader, she especially enjoyed mysteries. She cherished her Bible and was a servant without recognition. Flo always thought of others first and provided many with encouragement, special baked treats, and her physical labors.
She was a garment worker who had worked at the Miller-Hess Shoe Company and Millway Hosiery Factory. After retirement, she volunteered at Luther Acres in Lititz.
She is survived by her brother, John, husband of Thelma Mohler of Lancaster, her sister, Nancy Ice of Akron and 6 nieces and nephews: Bonnie (Adams) Scarborough, Cyntra (Adams) Thompson, John (Jack) Mohler, Jr., Abbie (Mohler) Ice, Tony Ice and Timothy Ice.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Adams, in 1990.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 22, 2009 at the United Zion Retirement Community, 722 Furnace Hills Pike, Lititz, with Pastor Abram E. Rhoads officiating. Interment will follow in the Jerusalem Lutheran Cemetery in Rothsville.
Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions in Florence's memory may be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Church, 2120 Main Street, Rothsville, PA 17543 or to the Water Street Rescue Mission, 210 S. Prince St., Lancaster, PA 17603.
