TINDIA/MADISON,WI - Nalini (Rao) Mohan, age 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, March 25, 2013, at Four Winds Manor nursing home in Verona. Born on April 4, 1927, in Kasargod, India, she was the daughter of Dr. Amrit Rao and Ratna.
While attending medical school in the late 1940's, Nalini met Kishori (Kish) Mohan and they married April 25, 1956. Kish preceded her in death August 4, 2005. After doing her residency in Burma, our Mom served as a doctor in India from the mid-1950s until 1969. She left her medical practice when our family immigrated to the US in July 1969. She worked at Oakwood Village, and then CUNA Mutual until her retirement in 1989. Mom was an avid reader, enjoyed word games, crafts, music, and travel, but most of all, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sisters, Vasanti, and Meera, and her brother, Subhash; and, in India, is survived by her sister, Lalita; and Vasanti's daughter, Preeti (Sujit) Cherian and their daughters, Anushna and Saloni. She is also survived by her three loving children: her daughter, Alka (Marty) Van Haren of Madison, and their sons, Steven (Keely), Jason, Joel, Sam; her son, Atul (Mina) Mohan of Ann Arbor, MI, and their son, Ashwin, and daughter, Sujini (Jay) Reddy and their children, Arvin and Amara; and her daughter, Amita (Dave) Mastick of Madison, and their daughters, Sara Mastick, Jennifer (Russell) Budell, and Kate Rustad.
We love you, Mom, and miss you very much, but we take comfort in knowing that you have now reunited with Dad, and your other loved ones. You will forever be in the hearts of family and friends whose lives you have touched with your gentle and loving ways.
