Conrad Moehling, Elk Grove Pioneer, Passed Away at 90
Mr. Conrad Moehling, an old resident of Des Plaines, died Saturday morning, May 28, at the home of his youngest son, Christ G. Moehling and family. He attained the ripe age of 90 years, 4 months, 25 days. Mr. Moehling was born January 3, 1842 in Haste Hessen, Schaumburg, Germany. At the age of seven he came to America with his parents, a family of five children. They came to Illinois and settled on a farm in Elk Grove where he attended school and was also confirmed there in 1856 by Rev. Friederich Detzer.
On November 25, 1875, he married Emma Sander. This union was blessed with three sons -- John W., Henry F., and Christ G. His wife was deceased on February 5, 1929. In the year 1865 he came to live on the farm which is now known as the Moehling Home Farm on Rand road, next to the present Cumberland subdivision. He lived there until December 20, 1909, at which time he moved to 1515 Park Place, Des Plaines. Mr. Moehling was one of the early members of Immanuel Congregation of that city. For the last six years he and Mrs. Moehling made their home with their youngest son. He was ailing since January of this year, since when most of his time was spent in bed.
Mr. Moehling is survived by his three sons, three daughters-in-law, 19 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one brother, two sisters-in-law, besides many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 31, at three p.m. at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran church in Des Plaines; Rev. Otto C. A. Boecler officiating. Interment at Ridgewood; arrangements by Lauterburg & Oehler.
