Mrs. William Holmes
Gladys R. Holmes, 68, of 256 15th St NW, died Friday following a long illness. She had been a Cedar Rapids resident 22 years.
Born September 20, 1906 at Waverly, she was married to William R. Holmes February 21, 1938 at Ames.
Prior to her retirement in 1972, she was an elementary teacher at Waverly and Cedar Rapids. Mrs. Holmes was a member of Trinity United Methodist church and both the state and national educational assns.
Surviving in addition to her husband is a daughter, Mrs. Charles Jones, St. Louis, Missouri; a son, Eugene Holmes, Blue Springs, Neb.; three sisters, Mrs. Merlin J. Hillman and Mrs. Roger Herrman, both of Des Moines; and Mrs. Van Stout, Mason City and four grandchildren.
Services: 1 p.m. Monday at the Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Ernest Larson of Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home after noon Sunday and at the Chapel after 9 a.m. Monday. Friends may, if they wish, donate to the Linn County Cancer Society.
