A funeral for Clifford P. Mockel of McMinnville will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service, Bozeman, Mont. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Cemetery, Bozeman.

Mr. Mockel died July 17, 2002, in Oakwood Country Place, McMinnville. He was 88.

He was born April 1, 1914, in Helena, Mont., the son of Philip and Elise Miller Mockel. He attended Gallatin County High School in Bozeman.

He and Jessie Rasmussen were married May 27, 1933, in Butte, Mont.

He lived for 35 years on a ranch he later owned and operated in the Crow Creek Valley near Toston, Mont. He served as a director of Broadwater County Soil Conservation District, president of the Broadwater County Farm Union, president of the Broadwater County Chamber of Commerce and vice chairman of the Broadwater County High School Board.

Mr. Mockel operated farm implement businesses in Townsend, Mont., Bozeman and Dillon, Mont. He served as a vestryman in St. James Episcopal Church, Townsend. He was a city alderman in Dillon and belonged to the Rotary Club and Elks Lodge there.

He was master of Three Forks Lodge AF&AM and the Dillon lodge. He belonged to the Scottish Rite in Livingston, Mont., and Algeria Shrine in Helena, Mont.

He moved to Fresno, Calif., in 1958 and worked in the farm implement business, life insurance, stocks and bonds and real estate. He served as president of the Fresno Life Underwriters Association. He was a sergeant-at-arms in the 1956 Republican National Convention in San Francisco.

He retired in 1985 and moved to Sun Lakes, Ariz. He moved to Summerfield retirement community in Tigard in 1991 and to McMinnville in 2000.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Carol Jones of McMinnville, Bette March of Cody, Wyo., and Marilyn Mockel of Bozeman; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers.
