CHILDRESS Maureen Catherine Finch Childress (born December 5, 1947) passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the Hadlow Center for Hospice in Jacksonville, Florida. Maureen left to be with her Lord and Savior while asleep in her children's arms following a very lengthy illness. Maureen was born in Holyoke, Massachusetts and later as a youngster moved to Miami, Florida with her parents. After marrying the father of her children, Dr. George Finch, Maureen moved to Memphis, TN where she attended Memphis State and studied arts and literature. Later she moved to Dayton, Ohio before finally settling in Merritt Island, Florida where her husband worked as a Rocket Scientist for the Space Center. For much of her life, Maureen worked as a Social Worker for the Child Care Association of Brevard County in Cocoa, Florida before retiring early due to her illness. Maureen loved the outdoors and spent much of her time devoted to her children, grandchildren and helping others. Some of her favorite times were spent centered around Christ, whether she was attending church or just talking about her Spiritual life. Above all, she loved spending time with her family. In her later years, her life was centered around her Grandchildren. She loved doing art projects with them, watching them fish, playing checkers with them, watching them play all their various sports (baseball, football, wrestling and soccer), but above all, she loved just "being in their presence." During the final few years of her life, she split her time between Rockledge and Jacksonville so she could spend these last years on Earth close to her children and her Beloved Grandchildren. These times are the ones she cherished above all, and her family is so grateful to the Lord for giving us this extra time to spend with her before He called her home to Heaven. Maureen will be forever remembered for her loving and gentle spirit. She touched the lives of all that knew her with her glorious smile and gentle spirit. Maureen loved helping others in need. Even at the end of her life, she put others first. She would listen to anyone needing comfort, and always knew just what they needed. Whether it be a shoulder to cry on or a dollar for a bus ticketÉ she always knew. Maureen was a true Servant of Christ, and her memories will live on forever in all the hearts of those that were Blessed enough to of known her. She is survived by her Beloved Mother, Lorraine Marie Reynolds, her Sister, Maryanne Alice Martin (Robert), her Children, Laura Anne Finch Boswell (Michael), Gregory Lawson Finch, Heather Marie Finch Stankard (Charles), Bryan Victor Finch, seven Beloved Grandchildren (minors), nephew, Christopher Martin, niece, Alison Martin, cousins, Peggy Gray and Vicki Dunkerley, the father of her children, Dr. George Lawson Finch. She was pre-deceased by her Father, Raymond Robert Moat, Her Beloved "Bonus" Father, William Marion Reynolds II, her Beloved Maternal Grandparents, Alice and Victor Vadnais, her Aunt, Claire Marie Vadnais Eidenire, and her second husband, James R. Childress (Rockledge, Florida). Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Oaklawn Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, January 21st from 5pm - 6:30pm with a reception to follow at the Epping Forrest Yacht Club. All family and friends are encouraged to attend in celebration of Maureen's life. OAKLAWN CEMETERY & FUNERAL HOME, 4801 San Jose Blvd is serving the family.
