He was the son of Christian and Gertrude Mittness. He had lived In Janesville from 1965 until a month before his death and prior to that had lived in Evansville for nineteen years, and before that, Wveville, where he was a station agent in both cities for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He worked as a station agent for forty-four years before retirement in 1961. He married Lillian Irene Tueber on June 1, 1925, in Wyeville. He was a member of the Chicago Northwestern Veteran's Club. He was survived by his wife; four brothers; a sister; and six grandchildren. An infant son preceded him in death.
