Joseph Frank Adams and Nettie Mitchell Adams made their home in the Pope City Community in Wilcox County, GA. John Frank was a devout Christian, a charter member and clerk of the Pope City Baptist Church. He was a licensed Baptist preacher and filled the pulpit in the absence of his fellow preachers. He was much respected in the community. His father preceded him in death by 15 days and on a visit to his father's grave the following Sunday, he made a mark in the sand with his foot, and said to his wife Nettie, "Here is where I want to be Buried." A few days later he got up early as usual one morning, started a fire in the fireplace then knelt by a chair and said his morning prayers. Shortly afterwards he suffered a seizure, possibly a stroke. He was placed in bed and one of the older boys went for the doctor. He never arose from his bed and died on February 25, 1928. On the night of his death, a friend Olin Lovett while helping to prepare the body for burial said, "Here lies a man well loved in this community, because he stood for what he believed." When his grave was dug at the spot he had chosen, the mark he had made a few days earlier was still visible. At the time of his death all of his children except Ruel and Frances were living at home and attending school except the oldest John Benjamin and four year old James Reuben.

Nettie was left a widow in 1928 upon the untimely death of her husband. All of her children except Ruel and Frances were living at home. She kept the family together and maintained a home until they were all married except her youngest James Reuben, who joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1941. She then made her home with her children, living with each a few weeks at a time assisting with the rearing of her grandchildren, cooking, and other chores which she enjoyed. She was a devout Christian and a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. She and her husband were charter members of the Pope City Baptist Church. Nettie died September 16, 1962 at the age of 82 and is buried in the family burial plot at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.
