Alva Franklin Mitchell, 95, of Danville, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Danville Regional Rehab.

He was born August 20, 1921 in North Salem, Indiana, son of the late James Walter and Bessie (Page) Mitchell. Alva married Eleanor Jeanette Troth on February 5, 1946.

He served his country in the US Army during World War II in Panama and Europe. He was a member of the New Brunswick Church of Christ. He was a dairy farmer and worked for the Indiana Equipment Company before retiring. During retirement, Alva volunteered at the Hendricks County Senior Center.

He is survived by his daughters, Diana (Jim) Stump of Danville, Mary Ellen (Stephen) Elliott of Natchitoches, Louisiana and Rita (William) Keaton of Rushville, sister, Mildred Sutherlin of Greencastle, brothers, Charles Mitchell of Thorntown and Jerry Mitchell of Ft. Myers Beach, FL, 7 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette and 6 brothers.

Family and friends will gather Friday, November 4, 2016, 5-8 p.m. at the Porter Funeral Home, Jamestown, Indiana. Services will be held at the funeral home, Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Jim Coyle officiating. Alva will be laid to rest in the Old Union Cemetery.
