01/08/2006 MARJORIE E. (MITCHELL) LAWYER HUNTINGTON — Marjorie E. Lawyer, 96, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, surrounded by her children. Marjorie was born in Wolcott, Vt. on April 3, 1909, to Homer and Georgiana (Tucker) Mitchell and grew up in Fairfield. On Jan. 16, 1926, she married James C. Lawyer. They lived on Conant's Farm in Richmond before settling in Huntington in 1943. No stranger to hard work, she had many jobs over the years, which included working on the family farm, taking in borders, cleaning homes and cooking at Nichols Restaurant in Richmond. Mom shared many stories with family and friends over the years, many which will be passed on to our younger generations. She was a loving and caring person, and wouldn't hesitate to go without to help someone in need. Mom enjoyed baking, gardening, crocheting, listening to music (especially songs by Toby Keith and Daniel O'Donnell), and spending time with family. In the winter of 2003, she enjoyed a sleigh ride on David Russell's farm with her daughter, Ruth and grandson Craig that was aired on the Channel three news. Marjorie was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all. Marjorie is survived by three children, Charles Lawyer and companion Beverly White, Carlton Lawyer and his wife, Janice, and Ruth Little, all of Huntington; her ten grandchildren, Debra, Margo, Suzanne, Paul, Donald, Chuck, Ellie, Fred, Mary and Craig; 19 great-grandchildren; 11 greatgreat-grandchildren; and her sister Ruth Bennett of Richmond. She was predeceased by her husband James, daughter Catherine, son James, daughter Loretta, daughter-in-law Betty, her brothers, William, Merrill and Homer Mitchell, and her sisters, Viola Draper, and Janice Mitchell. Words can't express how much the family appreciates all the help and kindness shown to our mother by her many caregivers at Hospice and VNA Care Connection. Special thanks to Gwen Grout for helping us at such a critical time. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 9, at 11 a.m. in the Huntington Baptist Church with visitation in the church from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Richmond Rescue, P.O. Box 404, Richmond, Vt. 05477, or VNA Care Connections, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, Vt. 05446. Gifford Funeral Home, 22 Depot St., Richmond in charge of arrangements.
