Bertha (Castella) Mitchell, a 60-year resident of Chelsea, formerly of Pouch Cove, Newfoundland, Canada, died at home on October 10 after a long illness. She was 90 years old.
A Gold Star Mother, she attended Memorial College in St. John, Newfoundland, was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the St. Luke's Guild. A homemaker, she worked as a sales associate for Filene's Basement, a hairdresser and a clerk for the former Prattville Bakery.
She was the beloved wife of the late Cyril Mitchell Sr.; devoted mother of Judy Gensel, Edward Mitchell, Jo-Ann Keller, Robert Mitchell, Donna Darouey, Denise Vargas and the late Cyril Mitchell Jr.; dear sister of Florence Bravos, Myrtle Finn and the late Lucy Pitcher, Ruben Castella and Edward Castella and is also lovingly survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was a dear aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were by the William R. Carafa & Son Home for Funerals, Chelsea. Burial was in the family lot at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
