I realize that his stone reads 1854 for his birth year, but it is wrong, as his older brother, William, was born in May 1854.
From "The Minteers As I Have Known Them" by Josephine Minteer Dickinson (1961 limited-edition private printing of 200 copies), youngest and last surviving of William Minteer and Mary Nicholson's 85 grandchildren:
"He was married to Anna McMillin, sister of Zelie. They took over the burden of running the old Minteer Farm after their marriage. Both were so patient and kind with the many visitors that seemed to gravitate to Uncle John's home, the old Grandfather Minteer Farm. This included especially our family and the nieces and nephews of the fourth generation. When their family outgrew this arrangement, they built a new home nearby."
