Rachael Minges DeLonge of Essex, CT, died October 4, 2012 at the age of 96. Rachael was born in Battle Creek in 1916, the daughter of Laura and Frank Minges, and lived in the farmhouse her grandfather, Abraham Minges, built after returning from the Gold Rush in 1851. Rachael attended Lakeview School beginning kindergarten in 1921, the year the school was built, and graduated in 1933. She spent her freshman year at Battle Creek College then transferred to Michigan State U. After graduating in 1937 with a degree in Health and Physical Education, she married Kenneth DeLonge, who was also a graduate of MSU. They moved to Cranford, NJ where they lived for 52 years. In 1989, the DeLonges left Cranford and moved to Essex Meadows, a Life Care Community in Essex, CT. Mrs. DeLonge was predeceased by her husband and youngest son, Gary V. P. DeLonge. She is survived by a daughter, Diana French of Mahwah, NJ; two sons, David DeLonge of Milburn, NJ, and Ronald DeLonge of Saxtons River, VT; and her sister, Frances Isaac who resides on S. Minges Rd. in Battle Creek. Also there are 7 grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on October 27, 2012 at Essex Meadows.
