Dr. William Hough Mills, 77, well known specialist in hygiene and preventive medicine, died this morning at the family home at 920 West Genesee Street. Dr. Mills had been in failing health since an automobile accident in June 1925, when he suffered a fractured skull.
A 1881 graduate of Syracuse University College of Medicine, Dr. Mills was the founder of several of the foremost branches of health work in Syracuse during his more than 40 years of active service.
Dr. Mills was the organizer of the present medical library at Syracuse University. He combined the material in the old libraries, which were at that time under separate heads. Later he organized a department of hygiene in the medical library.
Dr. Mills was president of the board of the Hospital of the Good Shepherd for a number of years and served on the staff for a quarter of a century. He was a member of the Academy of Medicine.
Dr. Mills Is survived by his wife, Frances Park Mills, his sister, Harriet May Mills, former commissioner of New York State Hospitals, 1923-1926, and a son, Charles de Berard Mills.
