VERNE FRANCES (PAXTON) MILLETt , 69, died Sunday at 8 a.m. in her home in Prophetstown. Verne Millett was born Oct. 6, 1893 in Prophetstown, where she lived her entire life, residing for 50 years at 102 Market St. She attended the Prophetstown elementary and high schools and for 55 years, was one of the owners of the Paxton Sisters Variety Store. Mrs. Verne Millett was the daughter of William and Ann Hortie Sarantz Paxton of Prophetstown. She married John Millett of Reynolds, Ill., in Prophetstown on March 15, 1927. Surviving are one daughter, Willeta (Lyle) Hammelman of Sterling; two sisters, Iva and Clare Belle Paxton, both of Prophetstown, and one grandchild, Edward Hammelman of Sterling. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband who died Dec. 23, 1932 Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, with the Rev. Nelson C. Chasteen, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday afternoon at the Gardner Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund has been established for the First Congregational Church. (Died 27 January 1963)
