Born in Seattle, Washington, October 28, 1932, she was the daughter of Wesley S. and Ardella "Pat" Patterson Millet. Educated in Seattle schools, she was a 1951 graduate of Queen Ann High School. May 3, 1952, she enlisted in the United States Navy. While serving at the Naval Training Center at Great Lakes, Illinois, she met her future husband, Richard D. Bragdon.
