C. Ellen Miller, 97, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010 at Indian Hills - A Stonebridge Community, in Chillicothe, Mo.

She was born May 5, 1913 in Harrison County, Mo, the daughter of William Arthur Terhune and Sarah Anna Mae (McLey) Terhune. On Dec. 29, 1937 she married Albert Austin Miller, who preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1998.

Ellen was a Gilman City High School graduate with a Bachelor of Science in teaching from Kirksville State Teachers College. She retired from the Chillicothe School District.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Chillicothe, a 50 year member of Eastern Star, Retired Teachers Association (RTA), Missouri State Teachers Association (MSTA), Hannah Circle, Harmony Homemakers, Rebeka Lodge. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and gardening.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ellen Russell, Kansas City, Mo., and Shirley Griffith and husband Steve, Lee's Summit, Mo.; sister, Dorothy Mullins, Trenton, Mo.; four grandchildren, Robert Austin Russell and wife Laura, Madison, Wis., Carolyn Ann Arnold and husband Jeff, Kansas City, Mo., Jeffrey Mark Griffith and fiancé Taylore Grafton, Lee's Summit, Mo., Amy Ellen Griffith and fiancé Colin Brown, Lee's Summit, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Ainsley Arnold, Kansas City, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Mildred King, Ethel Tout, Loretta Hobbs, Wilfreda Robb, Ruby Terhune; five brothers, Roy Terhune, Bill Terhune, Ralph Terhune, Loren Terhune, Howard Terhune; son-in-law, Donald M. Russell.

Services will be held Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010 at 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church, Chillicothe, Mo. There will be a scheduled family visitation on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. Friends may call on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. Burial will be at the Gilman City Masonic Cemetery.
