Hannah was most likely born in Blooming Grove, Orange County, New York. She was the daughter of William and Louisa (Wood) Miller. Hannah came to Lake County, Indiana sometime between 1860 and 1866. She married John Blakeman in July 1866 in Lake County.
Three children came from the union: Alice, Louisa and Amanda. Alice and Louisa died young. Hannah also helped raise the children of John and his first wife Lucinda.
As John and Hannah progressed in age, they were sadly separated. John was cared for by a daughter in-law, and Hannah by her daughter Amanda.
There is a relationship between a Catherine Gardner and Hannah, but it has not been determined if it is blood or otherwise. Hannah was enumerated twice in the 1860 census; once with her parents, and again living with a Catherine and Israel Gardner. In the 1870 census where Hannah had removed to Lake County, Indiana, Catherine and a male W. Gardner are living with Hannah and her husband.
